ewoTALK #5 – URBAN LOUNGE: The public space as a living room

December 12, 2019
ewoTALKS
Light fulfills a social mission and enhances the feel-good character of public places at night. Light is there for everyone.
In times of prioritization and permanent strengthening of the individual, the desire for a "community" takes on a new meaning. As a democratic asset, public spaces offer the opportunity to build (new) relationships; they create meeting places for social structures. They have the potential to counteract individualization and revitalize communities.
At night, light creates atmospheres and influences the quality of time spent outdoors. Light gives people a reason to go outside at night and come together, to feel safe and comfortable.
Light fulfills a social mission and strengthens the feel-good character of public places at night—as a technological campfire. Light is there for everyone - not just for a single individual—and thus democratizes a communal potential.
In Italy in particular, spending time together outdoors is a legacy that continues to this day. We would like to discuss all of this with architects, landscape planners and sociologists.
