Parc des Expositions, Paris (FRA)

ewo's luminaires were selected for the realization of the prestigious lighting project around the Parc de Expositions.

Homogeneous light in artistic lighting work

The Parc des Expositions is the largest exhibition center in France and is located in the 15th arrondissement at the Porte de Versailles metro station. François Gaunand (Seulsoleil Agency) was the mastermind behind the global lighting concept for Pavilion 6, designed by Valode & Pistre and Atelier Jean Nouvel, and commissioned ewo to create the delicate and sculptural lighting for both the main entrance area and the lighting around the canopy.

"The challenge was to develop a lighting system that does justice to the two orientations of the canopy (25° and 45°): These cause the illumination of the ground under the canopy to vary and to fall back onto the façade when it is higher up. To compensate for these fluctuations, we have developed a double system with two different optics in the outer conical poles. The top optics of the poles compensate for the loss of luminous flux in the canopy, which is poorly illuminated due to the vertical orientation at 45°," explains François Gaunand.

The lighting solutions

For the lighting under the canopy, a personalized IN ceiling light was installed on the underside of the "curtain" to enable standard-compliant lighting for public facilities.

  • Lens: AH02 Satiné version Symmetric Wide Flood / 3,000 K / 200 mA)
  • Illuminance: 20 lux
  • Uniformity: 0.4
  • Fire protection (450°) at 30 mn

In collaboration with ewo, François Gaunand and his team developed a specific lighting fixture for the forecourt and entrance area: 12 m long light columns with the ewo LP33 Satiné – Asymmetric Extra Forward Throw / 3,000 K / 400 mA optics. Two models of light columns were also created: A single light column on the outside of the building and a double light column at the edge of the canopy.

The six lighting units have an orientation system (-10° / +10°) that allows the light distribution in the different lighting zones to be adjusted so that it does not conflict with the integrated lighting in the canopy.

In the course of this project, we developed homogeneous lighting that guarantees functional light and safety, while the artistic lighting design remains in the foreground.
