Piazzale degli Alpini, Bergamo (ITA)
Together with &GO Lighting Solutions, ewo was commissioned to illuminate the Piazzale degli Alpini park in Bergamo.
Modularity and aesthetics
The redevelopment of the Piazzale Alpini project in Bergamo, implemented between 2018 and 2020, aimed to restore the square as a place of central importance to residents. Alongside substantial landscaping and wider development of the park, huge emphasis was placed on the materials used and environmental benefits for citizens in the areas.
As the lighting became a major focus for the park, ewo’s partnership with &GO Lighting Solutions was part of a wider collaboration with multiple contributors. Lighting design from Mario Morosini and further creative support from Studio Capitano Architetti, ensured removal of the previous lighting systems’ limitations, through modularity, soundly reasoned lighting design and a strong focus on aesthetics.

Safety and well-being
ewo CN600 luminaires were used with poles at 8m, chosen for the luminaires’ versatility and for their slender design aesthetic. Utilising the variety of distributions available within each luminaire, other features like integration of security cameras in the poles, guaranteed a 24-hour security surveillance service. Additionally, light management for the most important areas brought an optimised, dynamic approach with appropriate illumination values, alongside prioritisation of key areas and their relevance for illumination during pre-specified time slots. All of this complemented the overall aim of the park’s wider redevelopment for which energy efficiency was an enormous overall objective, factoring in even the heat-reflective properties of the concrete paving.
The objective to empower wellbeing outdoors is rooted in our ability to illuminate efficiently and to bring a sense of security to spaces like these. Piazzale degli Alpini is yet another example of how collaboration and commitment to the things that matter, can re-deliver outdoor spaces to the public.
“The redesign of Piazzale Alpini has created a place that is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also functional and safe—thanks in no small part to ewo's lighting.
