New ultra-wide light distribution for the ewo FA170 bollard luminaire: 1:21. The new spacing factor for pathway lighting
1:21. The new spacing factor for pathway lighting
With RP11, ewo introduces a new light distribution for the FA170 bollard luminaire. The reflector optic is optimised for pathway lighting and achieves a spacing factor of up to 1:21 at a light point height of just 0.92 m, translating into luminaire spacings of up to 20 m. A first project on the shore of Lake Mjörn in Alingsås shows what this means in practice: fewer luminaires, greater spacing, consistent protection of the night sky.

Playa Mjörn: fewer luminaires, greater impact
At Lake Mjörn in Alingsås, the FA170 bollard luminaire with RP11 is already in use. Playa Mjörn combines a 300 m long sandy beach, expansive green spaces and a long jetty with a bridge and lighthouse. The area around the jetty is a bird protection area. Accordingly, the requirements for illuminance and glare control were strict.
The Municipality of Alingsås and the local energy provider Alingsås Energi developed the project together. Frida Almqvist, lighting designer at Alingsås Energi, followed a clear principle: light should appear where it is needed, at the right intensity and at the right time.
Few FA170 bollard luminaires with RP11 optics are enough to evenly illuminate the path along the shore. All light is directed downwards. An app-based system controls the brightness and dims it at night. On the jetty, the lighting is switched off completely at night to avoid disturbing birdlife.
“With the new RP11 reflector optical system, we are pushing the boundaries of what's possible to give planners a versatile, highly flexible lighting tool they can use to realise their design vision for attractive places.
