A clear appearance – ewo’s lighting design blends harmoniously with the architecture of the new headquarters of Italian Chimica Fedeli

Architecture with precision and lightness

With the new headquarters of Chimica Emilio Fedeli S.p.A. in San Giuliano Terme near Pisa, the long-established Italian chemical company is making an architectural statement. The design by the MDSAP – Massimo Del Seppia Architetto office combines clear forms, sustainable materials and functional precision to create a modern campus that harmoniously blends corporate architecture and open space. The lighting concept from ewo fits seamlessly into this language, formally restrained, technically precise and atmospherically effective.

An ensemble of three buildings was constructed on a site covering around 40,000 m² – consisting of an administration building, a multi-purpose centre with an auditorium, both in timber construction, and other functional buildings. The architecture by MDSAP follows a stringent organisational system of cubic volumes, clear lines and open outdoor areas. The material appearance of glass, light-coloured façade surfaces and an interior timber construction that is visible from the inside creates a calm, functional aesthetic that combines the industrial character of the company with a contemporary, sustainable architectural language.

Light as a connecting and staging element

For the outdoor areas with access roads, parking spaces and connecting paths, a lighting solution was sought that would match the architectural clarity of the ensemble. ewo opted for the FA luminaire family, whose cubic, minimalist design language perfectly corresponds to the geometric composition of the buildings. Their precise lens optics from the A series ensure uniform, glare-free illumination and create visual calm in the outdoor space.

A total of over 50 FA170 and FA770 luminaires were used. Three-metre-high mast luminaires structure the space on the access roads and paths, while the parking areas are illuminated with six-metre-high versions. The warm white light colour (2700 K) creates a calm, atmospheric environment.

In addition, IN recessed floor luminaires were installed to create accent lighting effects along the front façades. With their RGBW technology, they enable variable colour scenarios, such as the red line of light in the entrance area or the blue lighting of the roof zone of the multi-purpose building. The IN series thus adds an emotional dimension to the lighting concept: it emphasises the architectural geometry, gives the buildings depth and transforms the ensemble into a precisely composed and recognisable light image at night.

Harmony of technology and design

The interplay between FA and IN luminaires embodies ewo's claim to design architecture with light, precisely, efficiently and aesthetically balanced. While the FA series provides orientation, safety and structure, the IN series lends outdoor areas and façades their characteristic atmosphere. Both systems share a minimalist design and a high degree of technical integration in the service of architecture characterised by clarity and order.
