The new Innsbruck Bridge — More than just a place to get from one bank of the Inn to the other

The famous Innsbruck Inn Bridge was redesigned and modernised by architect Rainer Köberl. With its new alignment, the bridge now welcomes tourists and citizens alike, who can rediscover this urban vantage point as well as spend some time there, too. The four triangular bulges make the Inn Bridge more than just a way to get from one side of the Inn to the other. The bridge becomes a stage where you can breathe in the fabulous view of the old town and the picturesque row of houses on the left bank of the Inn.

To complete its redesign, Köberl and the lighting designer from conceptlicht, Manfred Draxl, designed new, completely customised and therefore unique lights, produce by ewo for the Austrian city. The name chosen for this creation is Festtagshut (en.“holiday hat”).

The body created has a cylindrical shape and two light sources that complement each other, allowing both direct and indirect photometric distribution. The PMMA outer cylinder contains a funnel-shaped brass reflector that houses a COB LED, which emits its light at 3,100 K upwards via concave glass optics towards the secondary glossy aluminium reflector. The tempered glass bottom cover houses a ring of 32 asymmetric lenses AS07 (Asymmetric Side Throw) with a beam angle of up to 60 degrees.

The twelve luminaires, 6 on each side, placed 4 meters above the pavement and bike path, create a relaxing atmosphere for tourists, joggers or passers-by who like to linger for a take-away coffee and to admire the scenery.

With this project, we could tailor a product to the customer’s idea and once again pursue the mission of empowering wellbeing outdoors.
