Oslo—Regal, tailored palace lighting

ewo took part in a Europe-wide tender for a new lighting system for the Royal Palace in Oslo—and was ultimately commissioned to equip the entire outdoor area of the Norwegian royal palace with bespoke luminaires. The classicist palace was built in the first half of the 19th century by the king of Sweden and Norway, King Charles III John. Today, it is the official residence of the Norwegian monarch. The building is surrounded by the Palace Park with the Palace Square in the front.

As part of this ewoIndividual project, we created three different luminaires, specially tailored to the customer’s wishes and requirements:

  • Old-style lanterns with a by hand gold-plated crown,
  • rectangular light fixture reminiscent of a box
  • green hanging street lanterns with a design inspired by old Scandinavian luminaires.

The special feature and focus of the project lay in the design and the combination of old and new styles: classic-looking luminaires represent the charm of old European cities—at the same time, modern LED technology provides comfort. An excellent testament to the compatibility of modern technology with classic design.

"The long development process together with Frizen Belysning was definitely worth it, because the customer was extremely satisfied with the final result—and so are we. We are honored to have our luminaires at the Royal Palace in Oslo," says Hannes Wohlgemuth, CEO of ewo.
