OSLO RÅDHUS
A MONUMENTAL BUILDING, WITH SUBTLE ACCENT LIGHTING
Oslo Rådhus’ rectangular shape marks the main design characteristic of this building complex, of gigantic proportions with two towers up to 66 m high. The building’s rectangular form dominates its aesthetic in combination with its primary red brick material, and strong vertical and horizontal walls.
In design terms, form and colour needed to be considered with this illumination. Precise lighting with only 61 spotlights and individual lens combinations serves this magnificent building, homogeneously highlighting its distinctive rectangular design features at night.
It was particularly important to the lighting designers, to reproduce the tonality of the reddish colour of burnt earth as realistically as possible. The building originated in 1931-50, the era in which the aesthetics of medieval brick walls were revived in Europe. The light temperature of 2,700 K and the CRI value of over 80 were central to the preservation of this look.
Our R1, R2, R3 and P200 spotlights accentuate the splendour of the facade from predetermined positions. To minimise the glare for employees in the town hall, which is still used today - even for Nobel Peace Prize ceremonies - specific shields were designed to support the light control.
