High-quality, corrosion-resistant lighting for world-class swimming center
In 2020, planning began for a new indoor swimming pool in Hastings, in the Hawke's Bay region of New Zealand. The planners opted for high-quality ewo lighting.
The indoor pool was designed to add a world-class indoor Olympic swimming pool to the already high standard of health and fitness facilities at Mitre 10 Park Sports Park. The Regional Aquatic Centre is home to the region's newest swimming school as well as a 50m Olympic sized pool that can be used for national and international swimming events as well as public swimming. In addition, the swimming center has a separate 25m pool for beginners and various hydrotherapy pools. There is a total of 888 permanent seats, and the grandstand can hold up to 1,662 people if required.
The facility had to meet the highest Olympic standards, be as sustainable as possible in construction and operation and at the same time meet high design standards. Powell Fenwick Consultants was responsible for the design of the indoor pool and opted for high-quality ewo lighting.
61 R–System gen3 R2 floodlights with 4000K and CRI ≥ 80 were used, which can be individually controlled using DALI drivers. In this way, the intensity of the light can be individually adjusted as required, the entire lighting system can be monitored and any faults can be diagnosed quickly and easily.

Energy efficiency and corrosion resistance
The main task in this project was to supply a high-performance lighting system that meets the standards for international events of FINA (International Swimming Federation) on the one hand and offers low power consumption and maximum visual comfort on the other.
One of the reasons the planners chose ewo as their lighting provider was because our luminaires are extremely corrosion-resistant thanks to the ewoEPC coating—they were also fitted with external screws made of high-quality stainless steel: Given the close proximity of the luminaires to chlorinated water, these protective features were crucial.
“On the one hand, the installed R–System floodlights ensure high energy efficiency, on the other hand they meet all standards and, thanks to ewoECP, can withstand the chlorinated air in the indoor pool without any problems.
