Saving energy with new lighting system for field hockey arena
The municipality of Selva di Val Gardena in South Tyrol, Italy, commissioned ewo to replace the lighting system, whereby the positioning of the existing luminaires was to remain unchanged.
The ice stadium in Selva di Val Gardena in South Tyrol is used in particular for training sessions, Alps Hockey League matches and figure skating competitions. The municipality of Selva Gardena commissioned ewo to replace the lighting system, whereby the positioning of the individual luminaires was to remain unchanged:
Previously, the hall had 1000 W existing luminaires, but these were old and outdated and also suffered damage three to four times a year. One of the client's requirements was also to reduce the energy consumption of the lighting system. The new luminaires were to have an average illuminance of 850 lux and uniformity U1 of 0.7 and U2 of 0.6—despite the different installation heights and the use of LED 5700 K and CRI ≥ 90.

Fulfilled requirements and smart lighting
In order to meet these requirements, 40 floodlights of the model R–System gen3 R2 were used, all of the same size and equipped with the same lenses. The driver was attached to the luminaire body and the luminaires have excellent thermal regulation.
The symmetrical optics of the AH02 lenses are ideal for illuminating interiors, which in turn makes them perfect for this project. If required, other lenses can also be used in the luminaires, such as those with asymmetrical distribution in different directions.
The lighting system has also been equipped with smart lighting and can therefore illuminate the ice rink differently with different dimming levels and switching scenes depending on use.
“By replacing the existing luminaires, it was not only possible to achieve better uniformity of light, but also electricity savings of 20 %.
