ewo worked with Rubidium Light to develop the lighting for the new Nudgee Recreation Reserve sports and recreation area in Brisbane.
High-quality LED lighting for Brisbane's new sports and recreation zone
As part of the redevelopment of a natural area in Brisbane's northern suburbs, a 12.7-hectare sports and recreation zone was built for the local population: the District Sports Park Nudgee Recreation Reserve. The Sports Park offers sports fields for touch football, cricket and soccer as well as a BMX track and an outdoor dog park. A clubhouse, a fitness zone, walking and cycling paths, a playground and more were also created as part of the project. ewo was allowed to equip the area with high-quality LED lighting.
The requirements included very strict parameters, as the facility is located just 14 km from Brisbane Airport. In addition, light spillover into the surrounding natural and residential areas and the night sky had to be avoided.

Future-proof technology for optimum performance and dark sky compliance
135 R–System gen4 luminaires were used for the project. This luminaire has several advantages:
- It has a future-proof design, both in terms of the alternator and the individual parts
- Low drag coefficient thanks to a reduced projected front surface of the horizontally mounted lights
- IP68 GORE® valves effectively reduce the formation of condensation and thus prevent corrosion of the electronic components
The Forward Throw Asymmetric left and right optics were used separately, allowing the floodlights to be mounted horizontally. This meant that any dark sky requirements could be met, glare reduced and the number of luminaires minimized.
ewo was able to prevail against the competition in this project thanks to the optics, which prevent the luminaires from tilting upwards, the reduction in the number of luminaires and masts, the high degree of uniformity and, last but not least, the high cost efficiency.
“Our optics technology and high cost efficiency were among the main factors that convinced the customer of our products.
